Animals In Our Care

Puddin - Pot Belly Pig

Picture

Puddin was part of an unexpected litter of piglets and was soon surrendered to a rescue organisation in Victoria B.C.  Due to her shy nature she was having difficulty being adopted so we chose to take her in.
Puddin is known for her sweet complexion and flirtatious eyelashes!

Charlie & Charlotte - Pot Belly Pigs

Charlie and Charlotte are a brother and sister duo seized by the SPCA due to a pot belly hoarding situation in Ladysmith B.C.

Charlie is by far the sweetest pig at the sanctuary and a LOVER of belly rubs!

Charlotte is incredibly social but also the slowest eater in the pot belly herd (which is quite remarkable for a pig).
To ensure she gets her share she is separated at every meal time.

Hazel - Pot Belly Pig

Picture

Hazel came to us from the SPCA and the same hoarding situation as Charlie and Charlotte. We were asked to take her because she had been at the SPCA for several months and hadn't found a forever home.

Hazel is also Charlie and Charlotte's Mom so we were very excited to reunite them with her💕💕

Alice & Koda

Alice and Koda were our original rescues before we started the Sanctuary. These two had some behavioural issues that resulted in them being difficult to adopt.  My husband and I chose to adopt them when I was 6 months pregnant which at the time didn't seem like the greatest idea considering we would be bringing another great change in their lives 4 months later.  Lucky for us, our tiny human didn't cause them any grief and they are quite happy ruling the house.
Alice is quite insistent on being on your lap no matter what you're doing and Koda is a drool machine!

Violet & Eugene - Guinea Hogs

Eugene and Violet are a brother and sister pair that were abandoned in Mission, BC in the fall of 2017.  When they were found they were emaciated and terrified of humans but these are no longer issues now that they're safe at the Sanctuary.
Eugene is the squealer of all squealers at meal time while Violet is always patient and composed.

Juniper - Pot Belly Pig

Picture

Juniper came from the same hoarding situation as Hazel, Charlie and Charlotte.  Just like               Hazel the Cowichan SPCA was not able to find her a forever home so she came into our care.       It's an all too common story for full grown pot belly's, as it's difficult to find a home once they       are out of the adorable piglet phase.
Juniper is a love bug and asks for affection from literally everyone.

Gracie - Pot Belly Pig

Gracie was surrendered to us because she was continually nursing from her previous owners goats, yes you read that right!  This behaviour prevented the goats from being bred because they could not dry them out.  Due to the measures in which she was transported to the sanctuary it took some time for her to gain trust in humans again.
Gracie has exceptional hearing and is the first one to raise the food alarm bell.

Finnegan, Buddy, Smurfy & Remi - Goats

Picture

These four boys arrived to us from a loving home on Denman Island after their care taker passed away from cancer.  The previous care takers family tried for a year to find them a home but were unsuccessful.
They are all well into their senior years but still young at heart and get into mischief whenever the opportunity arises.

Elvis & Presley - Roosters

Elvis and Presley were surrendered because they were "supposed" to be hens in a backyard chicken operation.  They had to be rehomed due to noise bylaws where they were being raised.  They are your everyday roosters with traits roosters are known for which include crowing and ensuring everyone knows they are the boss!

Elvis was neutered in the hopes it would stop your typical guard rooster behaviour but unfortunately due to his age the surgery was much more difficult then originally anticipated.  You have to have eyes in the back of your head when these guys around.

Presley, our second guard rooster who seems to think he's the king of the Sanctuary!  These are the reasons why our volunteer Kirsti made the following sign for their coop - "Our Roost Our Rules".

Charles - Pot Belly Pig

Charles came into our care due to aggression issues that are linked to a prior abusive home.  We have come to learn that his aggression is based on fear but we can see that he has a very sweet soul.

Petunia - Pot Belly Pig

Picture

Petunia came to us in November 2018 due to several health concerns that needed to be addressed.  Petunia is morbidly obese which has resulted in "fat blindness", her hooves are extremely overgrown and she has a hernia on her back end.  She is currently on a special rehab program to improve her sight and mobility.  She is quite the diva and frequently enjoys meals in bed if the weather is poor outside!  This lucky girl is sponsored by Pure Lovin' Chocolate!

Sadie, Delilah and Doris - Chickens

Sadie came into our care when she was just one day old.  She was the lone chick that hatched to a family that tried to incubate several eggs.

Delilah came to us from a backyard chicken operation when she was deemed no longer valuable because she no longer lays eggs.  She came with a severe case of leg mites which has now been taken care of.
Doris came to us after she was the last survivor of several predator attacks from another backyard chicken operation.  She also came with leg mites which have been successfully treated.

Holly, Scott, Ducky McDuckerton, Janet, Suzie Q., Gabriella, Donald, Margaret, Glimmer & Daisy

We currently have 10 Muscovy Ducks that were surrendered from a breeder that could no longer afford to keep them.  Muscovy's are bush ducks and they keep us on our toes looking for nests in the woods

Lillian - Berkshire Pig

Lillian came into our care because her previous caretakers health was in decline.  The only homes they were able to find her were for breeding or for meat so we offered to take her in.  Lillian is an absolute doll that EVERYONE falls in love with when they meet her!

Theodore - Yorkshire Pig

Picture

Theodore is 949 pounds of studliness.   Theo was found at large on the Fraser Hwy in Langley BC in the summer of 2018 and was seized by LAPS (Langley Animal Protection Society) after his owner declined to take him back.  After almost 8 months in their care Theo took the media by storm when LAPS campaigned to find him a forever home by Christmas.  In the end over 50 potential adopters came forward from all the way over in PEI and all the way down to Texas; in the end we were asked to provide his forever home.  The media frenzy has followed Theo and he has been featured on several news segments and most recently predicted the Super Bowl winner.  Theo is a laid back fun loving sweetheart that everyone adores!

Gwendolyn - Turkey

Gwendolyn came to the Sanctuary after she was found by hikers in the woods in Nanaimo.  She was found sitting on 6 eggs and had been recently attacked by a predator but fortunately had only lost some feathers on her back.  One of her favourite party tricks is laying eggs in duck nests!

Rocky & Lucky

Picture

These two handsome studs came to us all the way from a high kill shelter in Texas.  You couldn't ask for more sweet and loving dogs!

Janet & Chrissy - Guinea Pigs

Our resident tiny pigs who were surrendered from a family going through a divorce.
